About Ultra Light Startups

What makes an Ultra Light Startup?

  • Low permanent headcount, low overhead, low budget
  • Outsourcing (e.g. Guru.com, Elance, oDesk)
  • Off-the-shelf and open source software and platforms
  • Cloud/network computing
  • Viral/gorilla marketing
  • Any other low-cost, high-flexibility techniques

Who are we?

  • A group of entrepreneurs who help each other launch successful tech ventures.  The group was founded in New York City, and that’s where the core of the group resides today, though we have contributors and viewers all over the world.

What do we do?

  • We meet.  Meetings are once a month, on the first Thursday of each month.  There we network, share ideas, and hear a presentation (usually from a successful tech entrepreneur) about a topic of interest to people starting tech ventures in an ‘ultra light’ way.  Meeting topics include anything you see discussed on this site - securing financing, building the technology, managing the project/team, marketing, etc.  Meetings are hosted by Rose Technology Ventures, one of New York’s premiere angel investment firms.  To get announcements about the meetings, join our Facebook group or or email announce list.
  • We blog.  The organizers and presenters of the Ultra Light Startups events are all entrepreneurs.  We have lots to share about our experiences.  Meetings are great, but there’s never enough time to cover everything and there are many ultra-light entrepreneurs outside of New York who can’t attend meetings in person.  So we post on this blog - everything that’s in the meetings and a lot more.
